ABOUT AMDRAM.CO.UK
The Amdram.co.uk web site first hit the net in June, 1997. It originally had 4 online pages, and was funded by Curtain Call, the amateur theatre newsletter for Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire. It now has about 1,500 pages on the server, including advertising pages, on-site hosted club pages and several searchable databases.
The intention behind the site was to bring part of the large volume of Curtain Call information online, and to help publicise amateur theatre to the world in general.
Since then, amdram.co.uk has taken on a life of its own. Despite criticism from some self-proclaimed artists about its notable lack of design features, the site now gets over 18,000 unique visitors each month and the incoming email volume can be anything up to 150 per day! Amdram.co.uk constantly monitors visitor stats and visitors are only counted once each month regardless of the number of visits in a month.
Amdram.co.uk is not part of an large company, it is not run by a "team of experts", it is run by one person, Jane, in her spare time. The site does not make a fortune, indeed if I had some money I would certainly change parts of the site. Amdram.co.uk is run for fun, to try and help anyone else interested in amateur theatre. I run the site because I love amateur theatre - just like you do! I have limited website skills, what you see is what you get. I would love better features, but don't have the expertise or the finances to do so.
The large volume of emails has meant that an on line Help Desk has had to be added to the site. This means that I can answer your questions from anywhere and not just my home. I get about 200 emails a day, the majority of which are spam and are deleted, occasionally a proper email gets deleted at the same time. The online help desk means that this can't happen - you are guaranteed a reply.
If your company wants to reach the estimated 3,000,000 people involved in over 30,000 clubs and societies which make up the amateur theatre community in the UK, talk to me! The intention behind the site is not to make money, just to cover costs and help the amateur theatre community. (Figures are estimates from available sources including The House of Commons Culture, Media and Sports Committee).
Curtain Call was founded in September 1994, it is a print on paper publication; curiously old-fashioned, I know ...
Curtain Call's main aim is to provide a local service in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and more recently Hertfordshire, for groups which wish to be kept in the know about what other groups near and far are doing. Since then, due entirely to reader demand and responses, it has grown into a fully-fledged bi-monthly newsletter, with feature articles, reviews and informational material.
It now has a wide circulation, on subscription only, amongst groups and individuals around East Anglia. You can ask for and get a copy of the most recent edition, free of charge - visit Curtain Call's page on amdram.
Both Curtain Call and Amdram welcome your comments, queries, etc. If you'd like to mail me, I'd love to hear from you. Contact Us.

All the information that I have is supplied on the website. I do not have any more information available elsewhere, for example, contact details of groups is contained in the database, if none are shown, it's no use ringing, I don't know any more! I provide a free service, please do not abuse this. The best method of contact is by the online Help Desk (I prefer it and you're likely to get a quicker answer). Please don't ring until you have read our frequently asked questions. In an emergency, and I mean an emergency, I can be contacted on 07005 963149, but please think before you ring - I try and answer emails within 24 hours and these will always take precedence over telephone calls! Amdram.co.uk is not my job. I am a student, ringing me is not always possible - I might be in lecturers or down the pub! Please think before ringing.
