Getting and staying active in later life
It’s UK Older People’s Day on 1st October and this year’s theme is ‘getting and staying active in later life’. This is a theme very much at the heart of The Swan Players’ new production, Senior Salsa, a comedy drama by local playwright Keith Wass to be performed at Knaresborough’s Frazer Theatre in November.
The play focuses on Sue’s Salsa Scene, a fictional dance club which has Sue pitted against her rival and former dance partner, Ivan. Sue struggles to keep her older dancers focussed, inspired and composed as their personal trials and tribulations interfere with the competition.
Sue’s fictional dancers range in age from 47 to 65 and as Anne-Marie Ledson, who is directing the play, says: “It’s important that people stay active in later life, a message that is key to the play; however the play is a lot of fun too.”
Salsa is such a fun way to exercise that many health clubs now offer Salsacise, a mixture of dance steps and aerobic movement.
Senior Salsa is on at The Frazer Theatre, Knaresborough, from 18th to 20th
November. For further information and tickets (£6.50 / £5) please telephone 01423 358553
