Lane Theatre Donate Over £1000 To Cornwall Hospice Care
On Thursday June 16 the sum of 1,107 pounds was raised at Lane Theatre for Cornwall Hospice Care. This was due to ticket sales for the production of “The Cemetery Club” a comedy by Ivan Mitchell directed by Newquay Dramatic Societies Multi award winning director Eileen Pollard and a raffle where the amount raised was matched funded by Barclays Bank.
Lane Theatre’s Sheila Lines explained: “Charity Nights at Lane Theatre are special for us because it gives us the chance to give back to the Town that supports us year in year out.”
President of the Dramatic Society, Lesley Clarke, presented Sue Dennett, Chairman of the Newquay and Crantock Fundraising Committee of The Cornwall Hospice Care with their well deserved cheque.
Lots of people from both organisations worked extremely hard ensuring that this evening was a huge success.
“From the society point of view it is always pleasing to help this worthy charity, as everyone knows someone who has needed help from ‘Cornwall Hospice Care’ and the brilliant work they do throughout the County” added Sheila.
Thursday’s Charity Night is the first of two planned this Summer. The second will be on the 22nd of September in aid of Newquay Lions (Towan Blystra) and the play on offer will be Alan Aychbourne’s “It Could Be Any One of Us” directed by another of Lane Theatre’s award winning directors Peter Choat. All the proceeds of this evening will go to the Lions.
Newquay Dramatic Society have a long history of fund raising for Charity, in fact since the Theatre opened in 1982 we have raised well over £70, 000 thousand pounds for Local Charities. When the Society started back in 1931 the first recipient of a charity donation was the newly built Newquay Hospital and the sum of 15 shillings and 11 pence was handed over to the Hospital Committee with just as much pride as ours was on Thursday.
