Posters

by Marketing Matt 19 November 2007

When advertising your future performances then you will create posters. They are easy to make, print and fairly cheap … they are also probably the most effective way of advertising an amateur dramatics production. However, there are a few ways in which you can use posters to an even greater advantage!

  • Make your posters stand out. The first thing a person should see is the title of the production … therefore it should stand out the most of the page – usually put it in clear writing and at the top of the middle of the poster.
  • Make sure all the relevant information is on there – your group name, your logo, performance dates, times, ticket cost and where to get more information/tickets.
  • Make sure the information is correct, and the spelling and grammar is right. There is nothing worse than seeing a poster with a wrong date, time or spelling mistake. It stands out and makes your group look half-hearted and not bothered about quality…and people might think your productions will be the same.
  • Put the posters up at average eye-level … then people will pay more attention to them … re-arrange a notice board and pin your poster up level … it gives it a greater sense of professionalism.
  • Put posters in places where people will see them … think about where your average audience member goes and would be more likely to see a poster … i.e. panto’s on school notice boards etc.
  • Print various sizes of posters – A4 are good, but try and go with A3 in shops if they will have them. Also you could have smaller A5 to put in the windows of your group members’ cars so that friends/family see them and people notice them whilst your members are driving around your village/town. A6 are good as little leaflets fitting 4 posters on an average A4 sheet, cut them up and leave them for people to take with them … at supermarkets, doctors surgery, library – or even post them (see Mail shots).
