The Servant Of Two Masters
Stage Two Downham are presenting the comedy, “The Servant of Two Masters” by Carlo Goldoni – translated by Stephen Mulrine. The play will be staged in Downham Village Hall from Wednesday April 5th to Saturday 8th April. All four performances at 7:30pm.
Here’s a brief synopsis of the story. You will be able to follow it. We promise!
Florindo has killed Beatrice’s brother, Federigo, who had forbidden their marriage and challenged Florindo, in order to defend his sister’s honour. This has led Florindo to flee to Venice. As a result of this, Beatrice, disguised as her ‘dead’ brother, has gone in search of Florindo, who she loves and also, to collect the dowry due to her brother, in order to buy Florindo’s freedom. The plot thickens!Beatrice, (as Federigo), whilst on her way to Venice, picks up the ever hungry servant, Truffaldino, who, also, unbeknown to her, subsequently, agrees to be a servant to her lover, Florindo, in order to double his wages and with the hope of satisfying his ever present appetite for food!
Hence the Servant to Two Masters. After many twists and turns, the story ends happily, with all the couples betrothed … to the right person …would you believe!
