Greenwash

This is set in an upmarket apartment on the Upper East Side of New York, owned by Alan who works in Public Relations for a large oil company.

He decides to throw an “intervention” for  Charlie – the alcoholic brother of Grace, whom Alan has a fallen for, and he plans to seduce.

Also invited are Michael & Lauren, whose marriage is on the brink, and Charlies estranged wife Nancy.  After several revelations the evening turns into a series of farce like situations.

It is a play for three men and four women, and one set that has to look expensive, and has to be set in New York.  The way that it is written it would not easily transfer to the English stage.

I also found it very hard work to read, and a struggle to get to the end.  I got the impression that  David Lewis was using this play as a vehicle to voice his own political views regarding global warming, which I am all in favour of and fully applaud anyone who is prepared to fight against  global warming and the lack of government action.

I think the play lacked an identity, not knowing whether it was a comedy, a farce, or a straight play with some lighter moments, and like the play I got very confused.

As with all my reviews this is just my opinion so please don’t be put off, but this is not one that I will be looking out for.
