This is a modern day comedy, set in the recording studio of a company that provides voice overs / jingles for commercials.

The centre character is Julian Mann, a professional voice over artist, and well known in the business. He is working on a commercial, written by Dino and Wes, for a new car. The trouble is the commercial is for a couple and when the female voice over arrives we soon realise that she is non other than Julian’s ex wife, Amanda.

As Amanda and Julian are in the recording booth their conversations cannot be heard by the other cast members, unless the comms switch is on, so there are many occasions in the play were two or more conversations are taking place at once. The comedy arises as in most of these instances the replies in one conversation answer the questions asked in the other conversation – clever writing.

We go on a journey with Julian and Amanda as they relive the good times of their relationship, and ultimately the bad times and the heart breaking reason why the marriage ended.

The cast also consists of Phil the sound engineer, Leonie the produce, and Preston the runner (this is a small role), so five men and two women.

The play is written in one act with no interval, so if you were intending to stage this then you may want to either warn your audience, or plan in a careful interval so as not to loose the flow of the play.

I would highly recommend this one for a read, a great first attempt from Alistair, and hopefully the first of many, as I like his style of writing.
