Auditions – As You Like It and King Lear

by Gary Durrant8 January 2011

Open Two amateur outdoor productions for Summer 2011 by MDCC Theatre Company, which is celebrating its 50th year of performance. Rehearsals from March to June, with 8 or 9 performances of each play at (mostly) weekends. Venues include Avoncroft (Bromsgrove) the Lichfield Festival, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, plus performances at Pembroke Castle in Wales.

We run genuinely open auditions each year. It is a big commitment, so if you are a committed amateur actor, we are likely to be interested in you. MDCC often recruits actors about to go to drama school, or those thinking about it, because the experience is so much ‘larger’ than can be obtained through regular groups – in short, a longer run and a chance to develop skills such as vocal and character projection in large open air spaces.

We are looking for up to 30 actors across the age range and while there is an existing membership, we emphasize again that our auditions are OPEN. Everything is up for grabs. Every role, in both plays.

If you think you might be interested in auditioning in February, please reply to this advert (gary [dot] durrant [at] live [dot] co [dot] uk) and we will email or post to you the Audition Pack for 2011. This tells you more about the company, the two productions and how to prepare for the audition, with many of the extracts that potential cast will be asked to read.

Auditions will take place on two dates:
Sunday 6th and Saturday 12th February 2011
at 2pm at MPW (Mander Portman Woodward) college in Birmingham
(17-18 Greenfield Crescent, Edgbaston).
