I am the director of Gaslight which will be on at Beckenham Public Halls mid-November, rehearsals are also in Beckenham.  I have still to cast one of the smaller roles – Nancy, playing age of early twenties.  She appears in Act 1 & 3; as a character she should make a impact, as she is a ‘sort’, the kind of girl who knows how to have a good time and shows her interest in the master of the house – insolent rather than cheeky.  The story is set in the period before women could hold on their property, so pre-1870, it is a melodrama come pyschological drama and was made into two films, the first British the second with Ingrid Bergman and at the Old Vic with Rosamund Pyke & Kenneth Cranham.  The mistress of the house is downtrodden, Nancy is very different, confident and sure of herself.
