I am looking for talented performers to be the first to play exciting characters in my new play called The Whisper.

Performances will be on the 10 and 11^th December at the old JB priestly playhouse in Bradford. The Whisper is a musical comedy set in the early 17^th century.

Location: The town of Little Doing

The inhabitants just want to have as much fun as they can to brighten up their miserable lives. However that’s not easy when you have a puritan Bishop looking over your shoulder trying to find any excuse to have you hung for witchcraft.

Caroline is the eldest of a group of children in the care of Bishop Griffin’s orphanage. She dare not challenge the Bishop’s authority. Only when Joaquin Da Savaloy, a dashing Spanish army captain, puts his life on the line for her, does she realise that the world could be different from what she has been led to believe.

The timid and flamboyant Judge Fawket is eager to string up anyone the Bishop accuses of witchcraft in between visit’s to his favourite coiffeur. Such is life in Little Doing but there is a dark secret that could change things forever. Will Joaquin and his life-long companion Juan King get to the bottom of it? Who knows.

Characters

Bishop Griffin: does not accept his fallibility that easily. He is a devout puritan and demands
unconditional obedience. He believes that he will be rewarded for his work. The
more infractions he encounters the harsher he treats his flock until he is dispensing more
punishment than enlightenment

Lady Maria: has spent her youth marrying rich old men in pursuit of wealth in favour of happiness. Her latest husband has expired due to exhaustion, and she now determined to marry for love. Having heard all about the exploits of Joaquin,  she has arranged for his hand in marriage in exchange for a large sum of cash to King Felipe of Spain. She may have lost her looks but not her libido and she can’t wait to get Joaquin to the altar.

Juan: Is a hunchback and has suffered the inevitable taunts and persecution all his life. He is deeply sympathetic to the cause of the underdog. Juan’s role is to keep Joaquin out of too much mischief and he is clearly the brains of the pair, masterminding all of Joaquin’s conquests and their plot to cause Havoc ahead of another invasion attempt.
