“Lovers”

“Lovers” is an exciting new available at present to amateurs royalty free. It examines various aspects of love through the eyes of “lovers” who frequent a chic cafe in New York city – including a scatterbrained, naive young woman; a selfish, immature young artist; a sensitive young gay man; a middle-aged gay man finally finding the courage to “come out”; a philandering husband with a wife who gives a new dimension the the phrase “love is blind”; and an attractive and articulate but emotionally scarred battered wife, desperately searching for a chance to change her life but lacking the self-confidence to try. A pregnancy, an extra-marital affair and a tragic death cause these to re-examine their lives and some of them emerge with a new found strength that changes their lives forever.

The emotionally powerful and crisp-witted book & lyrics are penned by Robert Gould, a playwright from south Wales, whose new play, “Inside Out” (co-written with Swedish writer, Jimmy Granstrom) will receive its world premiere in Melbourne in January 2003. The music is composed by Ty Kroll, a brilliant young talent from Wisconsin, USA, whose previous work includes musical adaptations of “The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow” and “Brave New World”. The score ranges from powerful, dramatic arias through bouncy pop tunes to evocative ballads where the melodies simply soar. This is a challenging new work which amateur groups should grab with both hands.
