One Act Play Competition and Festival

Think you are the next Nöel Coward? Then why not enter our bi-annual one-act playwriting competition. This is open to all and has a strong tradition behind it of nurturing, showcasing and promoting new talent. Several authors have gone onto bigger things. Entries arrive from overseas and across the UK in increasing numbers.

The next One Act Play Competition and Festival is scheduled to take place in July 2009 and winning writers will have the honour of seeing their work premièred on stage at the 300 seat Daneside Theatre.

There are two categories – under 18s and over 18s.

ALL entries will be “blind” read by an experienced team of directors actors and writers in order to short list the best plays. Those short-listed will then be subject to further review by a panel of directors as to their merit in writing terms and the practicality of staging in terms of casting and set.

ALL writers will receive a response and in previous submissions some plays that are not selected for performance may be retained on file for future performance.

Applications from schools, colleges and universities are very welcome. If you are a teacher or lecturer please contact us to discuss further how we can assist you.

The closing date for entries is the 31st January 2009 so get those creative juices flowing! If you are submitting a script please be aware that budgets for sets and costumes/props are limited and, as we showcase 4-6 plays, set changes need to be practical.

Terms and conditions will apply and only original works that have not been previously performed will be accepted.

Further details are available at http://www.congletonplayers.com including photos from the last festival and a downloadable PDF file with the competition rules.
