Welcome to a new concept in theatre publishing – a publishing company that is owned and managed by writers. The Playwrights’ Co-operative is a not-for-profit organisation whose aims are to cut out the middle-men and profit-makers from the world of theatre publishing and give individual playwrights the opportunity to take greater control and responsibility in the marketing of their work with all the benefits that full publication brings.

On our site you’ll find our full catalogue of well over 600 theatre play scripts of all kinds and lengths, plus details of the playwrights and authors. If you’re a member of a professional or amateur theatre group or dramatic society you can order acting editions of play scripts and if you decide to stage a production you can arrange performing licenses by email or regular mail, or by using the shopping cart facilities of the website.

We offer free catalogues on request and you can download copies of any of the plays, free, (for evaluation purposes only) via our website www.plays4theatre.com – so you don’t have to buy scripts only to find you’re stuck with them because they’re unsuitable.

Our website has been designed with theatre groups in mind – go to our Catalogue page and you can specify what length of play you’re looking for (one act or full length), the type (comedy, drama, pantomime, musical, youth play etc.) and the number of male and female roles. So if you happen to want a full length comedy with between 3 and 5 men and between 3 and 7 women, our search engine will give you a list of exactly what you want. Click on any play to see a synopsis, and then click on any of the links to get download scripts, purchase paper scripts and organise performance licences.

We encourage our member playwrights to go and see your productions, so – as well as the feelgood of having the author present, you can use the visit to generate interest in the local media.

And any budding playwrights out there – you could join us and submit plays for consideration. You’ll get a written assessment of the play and possibly a publishing offer, plus our newsletters full of writing tips and opportunities.

Theatre companies can join, too – at present the annual fee is £15 – and you’ll get a 15% discount against any and all scripts ordered. Scripts are £3 for one act plays and £6 for full length plays.
