Subsidised Theatre Workshops

by Vera Chok6 July 2010

I have organised a series of highly subsidised running NEXT WEEK at People Show Studios, Pollard Row, London E2 6NB, suitable for anyone interested in theatre.

This non-profit making exercise and possible through the kind donation of time from workshop leaders – including leading industry professionals Mick Barnfather (Complicite) and Vik Sivalingam (RSC) – and it would be great to have people taking part.

We’re trying to encourage the exploration of theatre in a fun, practical and accessible way, and to support and invigorate all performers out there, at whatever stage of their career or involvement.

A variety of workshops run from Monday July 12th – Saturday July 17th. Prices are deliberately affordable (£20 – 65) to encourage everyone to try new approaches to working:

- an RSC director teaching Text Analysis , £35 for a day. You’ll go over classic texts from the likes of Strindberg, Chekhov, and Miller, and see how simple analysis reveals the scene. You’ll get to play the scenes with a partner and be  directed.

- Mick Barnfather (Complicite) Introducing Comic Characterisation through half-mask, £25 for an evening.

- Gaulier/Lecoq workshop on being present, £25 for two evenings. You’ll play games and improvise, working on creating a true relationship with your audience.

- Explore physicality through Grotowski and Michael Chekhov techniques. Made fun and accssible, this emphasises body-awareness, ensemble work, and a wonderful, fun vivacity on stage. £75 for four days and a showcase

- a Voice Coach tackling Shakespeare monologues through movement, games, and traditional voice techniques, £25 for a day

Each workshop will be limited to a small group for personal attention.

Venue: People Show Studios, Pollard Row, London E2 6NB
