WLOS Launch A New Website
As we approach our 90th Anniversary (first rehearsals started in 1929 with the first production – Gondoliers – in 1930) WLOS has hurtled into the 21st century with a blast – and a backward glance too. We are very fortunate to have amongst our members a young designer, Alison King, who – as well as producing some mouth watering posters for us over the last few years – has now designed a wonderful new website.
The website is now ‘open for business’. It has all the ‘usual’ features about current and future productions, as well as a facility to sell tickets on-line, but one feature that we feel really sets it apart, is our on-line archive going back to 1930. Our Business Manager, Susan Mills, performed a Herculean task of collecting and scanning hundreds of images – photographs from old shows as well as programmes. We are very fortunate to have one member who has been in the company for over 50 years as well as to have been bequethed the scrapbook of another who thankfully kept photos and programmes going back decades. So we feel the site will be of great interest and value to people with an interest in the history of ‘amdram’.
We have also imbedded various ’slots’ where visitors to the site can add their comments and we would be delighted to hear what you think of our ‘window on the world’. As with all website, ours is definitely a work in progress. We would also like to set up links with other societies as we feel strongly that, particularly as we are all struggling a bit financially at the moment, there is so much to be gained from sharing information, ideas and supporting each others productions.
