Writers Wanted

by CTTC10 August 2010

CTTC want to launch a new project which we aim will culminate in a play to be performed at Battersea Park School for the Wandsworth Festival in May 2011.
In 2005, 4 members of the ten Hallmark Players co-wrote a play called “Baci Baby”, which was performed at Battersea Arts Centre as part of the Wandsworth Festival that year.
Three of us now feel ready to do it again, so we are launching a new writing group and are looking for writers to work with us who could commit from September to May next year. A theme that we have previously discussed is Crossing Frontiers, which can be interpreted as loosely as the writers see fit. However, if you have an idea for a subject for a play, we’d love to hear about it. Prospective writers please contact:
• Catherine Mahy: cathma [at] hotmail [dot] co [dot] uk
• Liz Joynes: liz [dot] joynes [at] googlemail [dot] com
• Alan Scott: asec [at] talktalk [dot] net
The first meeting will be held on Tuesday September 7th at a location near Bridge station (to be confirmed).

Don’t Want to Write – Here’s How You Can Help
Even if you don’t feel able to commit to the writing process, we would be very interested in reading your anecdotes, or your friends’ anecdotes, good, bad, or funny, of crossing frontiers. Please email them to Catherine at cathma [at] hotmail [dot] co [dot] uk . Catherine will then forward them to all who have expressed an interest in writing this play. The deadline for sending emails is August 31st.

Timetable
As we are aiming to have a play ready for performance in May 2011, we will need to adhere to a strict timetable, and I’ve included a draft below:

September 7th: Writers meet with suggestions for a storyline based on the anecdotes and drafts of any scenes they have felt inspired to write.
Weekly: The writing group will meet to build the play, and read the scene “assignments” decided the previous meeting.
Final week in November: First draft to be read by members of CTTC.
Mid-December: Second draft to be ready
First week in January: Second draft to be read by members of CTTC.
First week in February: Final draft to be read by members of CTTC and play approved for production.
Mid/end February: Auditions

Here’s hoping we get plenty of volunteer writers and anecdotes.
