The workmen are to perform their play for the celebrations.Hermia and Lysander are in love but Hermia`s father wants her to marry Demetrius. Helena loves Demetrius but he loves Hermia.The 4 lovers run off to the woods. The workmen rehearse in the woods. So they all come into contact with mischievous fairies and Oberon and Titania (king and queen of the fairies)who are having a “domestic”.Thus the scene is set for these poor souls to be caught up in the machinations of the fairy world.
