Extra Information
- Notes: It is spring of 1912 and the well-to-do Birlings are enjoying a pleasant family dinner celebrating the engagement of their daughter Sheila to Gerald Croft, son of another wealthy local family. It is all going so well, when there is a ring at the door – an Inspector calls. The Inspector tells them that a young girl has committed suicide. As he questions each member of the family it is obvious that each of them has contributed in some way to this girl’s suicide. In this important work, J.B. Priestley highlights the enormous chasm that separated the social classes before World War 1.
