The Birlings are enjoying a family dinner party to celebrate the engagement of Sheila and Gerald when the door bell rings. In is an inspector who announces that he is investigating the suicide earlier that day of a young woman. At first the family deny any involvement but one by one they all become implicated in her tragedy. However all is not quite what it seems!
