Extra Information
- Other Information: We’re inviting budding actors both old and young to join us for “Senior Moments”. The show, which will be performed from 24th to 29th May, will consist of three one-act plays which illustrate how the passage of time affects people in different ways and how attitudes vary between the generations. The plays, “The Train” by Carl Slotboom, “Say Something Happened” by Alan Bennett and “Dinner For One” by Lauri Wylie are respectively, moving, witty and hilarious. The cast of nine characters across these plays consists of senior citizens and young men/women (late teens or twenty-somethings) – but thanks to the wonders of stage make up the ages of the actors & actresses playing those characters may differ. It’s not just actors that the group are looking for – they need a range of people with different skills to help them put on a show: these include anyone who is handy with a hammer, a paint brush or a saw; anyone who can rustle up something fabulous from a few pieces of fabric and some Velcro and anyone with a talent for lighting, sound, marketing the group, selling tickets or welcoming patrons.
Auditions will take place on Monday 1st February, Monday 8th February and Wednesday 17th February at 6:30PM.
“The Train” by Carl Slotboom
Here two railway carriages are shown simultaneously, one of which is in 1943 and the other in 1995. In the modern train circumstances cause a couple to reflect on their wartime experiences: whilst in the second older train carriage the same couple are shown as they were in their younger days living out those experiences. The result is a story that will touch your heart and make you think how things could have been so different, so easily.“Say Something Happened” by Alan Bennett
Here we meet an elderly couple whom the Local Authority are trying to put on a register as they think that they may be “at risk”. The Local Authority representative is a young and naive social worker who is not at all sure of herself. Here time is of the essence as it highlights the difference that time makes between the attitudes of the young (the social worker) and the not so young (the couple). The resulting conversation, in true Bennett style, is both entertaining and gives you so much to reflect upon.“Dinner For One” by Lauri Wylie
This little known play has achieved almost iconic status in Germany where it is shown on television every New Year’s Eve. It focuses on an eccentric, elderly lady and her manservant, who relive the annual dinner parties they held for many years. The problem is that all of the actual guests have died and the manservant is required to take their parts – particularly in drinking the toasts! The resulting hilarious antics of the manservant are easy to anticipate. But how does an animal skin feature? And what happens at the end of the meal?
