Auditions – The Wizard of Oz

The Barn Theatre is off to see the wizard, and we’d like you to join us!
Calling all wannabe actors and backstage volunteers for our Christmas production of The Wizard of Oz.
The Barn Theatre in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, will soon be holding auditions for their Christmas production of The Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum.
In the state of Kansas at the time of the Great Depression a young girl called Dorothy dreams of leaving her poverty and travelling over the rainbow and finding a land of wonder and fantasy. When a tornado hits her family’s farm, she is transported to the magical land of Oz, where she must seek out the mystical Wizard of Oz who can help her find her way back home.
This production contains all the elements of the classic story that we know so well, including the songs! Our full cast will require:
· Dorothy Gale, our heroine (age 18 to 24)
· Aunt Emily / The Good Witch of the North (age 40 to 60)
· Uncle Henry / The Emerald City Guard (age 40 to 60)
· Zeke / Cowardly Lion (age 30 to 50)
· Hickory / Tin Man (age 30 to 50)
· Hunk / Scarecrow (age 30 to 50)
· Miss Gultch / The Wicked Witch of the West (age 30 to 60)
· Professor Marvel / The Wizard of Oz (age 40 to 60)
· For Munchkins, Flying Monkeys and Citizens of the Emerald City, we need 15 young people aged between 12 and 16
· Toto!
Auditions will be held on Tuesday 7th July (7:30pm), Thursday 9th July (7:30pm) and Sunday 12th July (11:00am) at the Barn Theatre, Handside Lane, Welwyn Garden City. Rehearsals will commence in September.
All are welcome to simply turn up and try out for a role, but if acting’s not your thing, please do come along to ask about taking a backstage role as our crew forms a critically important part of any production. We urgently require a Choreographer and Musical Director, and we also need help with costumes, props and make-up.
Production dates (12 public performances in total, with no performances over the Christmas holiday itself):
