Lion and Unicorn Players

The Lion and Unicorn Players was formed in 1959 by a small group of people with a passion for drama. It has always been the Players' policy to stage plays of depth and quality, comedy and even very occasionally farce as well as tragedy, but nothing so lightweight that it does not repay the time and effort put in by both the group and its audiences. Playwrights performed over the years have included Shakespeare, Shaw, Ibsen, Christopher Fry (who personally attended several of his plays), T.S. Eliot, Arthur Miller, Charles Williams, Tom Stoppard, David Hare, Robert Bolt, J.B. Priestly, Alan Bennett and Alan Ayckborun. The Group also prides itself in its set and costume design, both of which have attracted their own accolades. Lion and Unicorn Players also came first and second in the last ever Petersfield Drama Festival. We have recently won an Accolade of Excellence Award from NODA for our production of Thornton Wilder's 'Out Town'. For the Golden Jubilee production, the Players have chosen 'On the Razzle' a brilliant farce by Tom Stoppard.
