Patchwork Penguin Productions Present Bug By Tracy Letts.

Rondo Theatre, Bath - 26-29 May 2010.    www.bugtheplay.info

The Show

Tracy Letts’ award winning play, adapted into the movie of the same name in 2006 (directed by William Friedkin of ‘Exorcist’ fame), is a riveting, paranoia filled thriller for our times. It’s fast paced, darkly humoured and at times deeply disturbing.

Set after the first Iraq war in the mid 90’s, in the seedy confines of an Oklahoma City motel, the play refuses to sit within any one genre – thriller, love story, horror, comedy – it’s all of them and more. Agnes is the motel resident, escaping the bleak world she inhabits through a mixture of drink and drugs. A violent past and a lost child has left her empty and withdrawn, until Peter comes into her life – a chance for a new beginning…or the beginning of the end?

It is now 15 years since the Oklahoma Bombings rocked the US (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/apr/11/oklahoma-bombing-15-years-on), the paranoia filled climate created by this and fuelled by the attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 provides a very real background to the events that unfold, the dark satire of the play frequently wrong-foots the audience, plunging into unexpected directions and with a visual flair rarely seen on the small stage.

A descent into a paranoid world of madness and fear; unravelling where reality ceases and fiction begins will have you re-examining the night for quite some time…

This is the first time the show has been performed in the – so we’re very excited to be the first to bring this excellent show to Bath.

“A riveting thriller of paranoia and an instant guilty pleasure…” Hollywood Reporter
“Obscenely exciting…top flight craftsmanship…” New York Times
