• Notes: Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical about a mill-worker who marries a fairground barker. His attempt to steal money for his unborn baby ends in tragedy when he is caught and falls on his own knife. In heaven, he is given permission to return to earth to perform a good deed to redeem his past, and visits his wife and daughter before returning to take his place in heaven. The show contains some of the best-loved songs in musical theatre, such as ‘If I loved you’, ‘June is bustin’ out all over’, ‘When I marry Mister Snow’, ‘What’s the use of wond’rin’ and ‘You’ll never walk alone’.
