- Notes: Barry Manilow’s award-winning hit song ‘Copacabana’ gave him the inspiration for this tribute to the musicals of the 1940s.While working on what he hopes will be his next hit song, songwriter Stephen thinks back on an age when ‘music and passion were always the fashion’ at the famous Copacabana nightclub in New York City.He dreams that Lola, a young showgirl, is helped on her way to stardom by Tony, a bartender with ambitions of his own. Lola’s performance so impresses gangster Rico, that he steals her away to his Tropicana nightclub in Havana. From here unfolds a tale of love, jealousy and murder in the lives of Lola, Tony and Rico, all set in a world of glamour and fabulous costumes
