Extra Information

  • Notes: This is wonderful family entertainment, a “ripping yarn” of genuinely uncomplicated innocence, written by Denise Deegan, and truly evocative of Angela Brazil’s schoolgirl novels. Assisted by the faithful Trixie Martin, her one true chum, Daisy Meredith, a bullied scholarship girl from a humble background, seeks to excel amongst the snobby posh types, epitomised by her arch-enemies the conceited Sybil Burlington and the toady Monica Smithers, at Grangewood, a girls’ boarding school in 1927.The school building, which is owned by the family of the Head Girl, Clare Beaumont, and leased by the school governors, may have to be sold to the school to pay off the Beaumont family debts. There is, however, a rumour of hidden treasure…There is a vital hockey match to be won, but will Daisy be allowed to play?Who is the mysterious whistling assistant gardener, and what is his connection with the enigmatic Russian music-teacher?As the planted circumstantial evidence mounts against her, and under threat of expulsion from Grangewood, will Daisy finally solve the mysteries and triumph over adversity? All is revealed in this fun-filled dramatic romp through distant schooldays, which features not only some of our dependable regular performers but also a number of our extremely talented junior members in their first major stage roles for the company.Directed by the experienced Penelope Rooth, ably supported by many of the regular production team (plus a few other experienced faces new to SDS) this promises to be a show not to be missed.
