Send Amateur Dramatic Society based in Woking, Surrey are performing Goodnight Mister Tom
One of the most uplifting stories ever written, Michelle Magorian’s stunning Goodnight Mister Tom is brought gloriously to life in this stage adaptation by David Wood – the UK’s ‘National Children’s Dramatist’ (The Times). Set during the dark and dangerous build-up to the Second World War, Goodnight Mister Tom follows sad young William Beech, who is evacuated to the idyllic English countryside and builds a remarkable and moving friendship with the elderly recluse Tom Oakley. All seems perfect until William is devastatingly summoned by his mother back to London.
Goodnight Mister Tom is a tale of two broken souls at very different ends of the age scale that celebrates the value of love and proves that friendship knows no barriers.

SADS is a long established part of village life in Send and has always been based at the Lancaster Hall. There are usually three productions each year; the spring production consists of three one-act plays, this is to give those have not directed or acted the opportunity to do so in a relaxed environment. It is always the aim to be able to perform one of these plays in the Woking drama festival each year. In the summer a longer two-act play is performed and the pantomime before Christmas is now a Send village tradition.
SADS also boasts a well-supported junior section that performs its own production in May and also play an important role in the pantomime each year.
