You Shall Have The Body!
With names such as Lady Rumpers and Canon Throbbing you can be sure it’s either a Carry On film or a farce written by the legendary playwright Alan Bennett with randy vicars and a superfluity of trouser dropping moments.
The Keighley Playhouse production of Habeas Corpus lets us know that permissive society is swinging, but the button-down British haven’t noticed. That’s all about to change!
Habeas Corpus concerns the aging Dr. Arthur Wicksteed and his pursuit of a nubile patient, Felicity Rumpers. Wicksteed’s wife Muriel, lusts after the charming head of the British Medical Association Sir Percy Shorter, who as well as being Wicksteed’s old rival, turns out to be Felicity’s father – the result of an under-the-table liaison during an air-raid with Lady Rumpers. Meanwhile, Wicksteed’s spinster sister Connie – ashamed of her flat-chestedness – has schemes of her own.
Hop on this farcical merry-go-round for the ride of your life as there’s a whole lot of groping going on where he who lusts last, lasts longest and he who laughs most, often laughs best. Double entendres, misunderstandings and innuendo all make up the ingredients for a typical farce.
