- Notes: J Pierrepoint Finch, a humble window washer by trade but who then comes across a copy of Mead’s book, finds himself in the city HQ of World Wide Widgets and proceeds to follow the book’s teachings. Helped also by some natural charm he swiftly impresses several secretaries, the Personnel Manager and the Chairman of The Board. Along the way, as he breaks hearts and stabs backs, he encounters the aggressively compliant ‘company man’, the whiny nepotistic boss’s nephew, caffeine addiction, the office party, back-stabbing colleagues, the glamorous and predatory secretary and, ultimately, true love. As well as giving us a very funny show, Frank Loesser makes it bristle with snappy numbers like Coffee Break, A Secretary is Not A Toy and Been a Long Day, the exuberant Brotherhood of Man and the gorgeous I Believe in You.
