Life Goes On

Our next production is a delightful play by Adrian Hodges called “Life Goes On”. The play opens on the night of George Marlowe’s funeral, which may lead you to believe that you are in for a very sombre and serious play. You will soon find out to the contrary when the deceased himself appears on stage to comment on the event! We then see how George’s surviving family members are coping with his sudden demise (the actual cause of his death is revealed in a flashback scene). His brother, Michael, an aspiring film producer seems to be coping well without him. His widow, Joyce, is also bearing up despite her bickering sisters, Debbie and Helen. Helen is a high flying financial wizard and is Michael’s current partner. We soon see that Michael is an outrageous flirt and during the play he makes advances to both Debbie and Joyce! The problem for Michael, however, is the appearance of George who drops in on his way to the afterlife. Unfortunately, Michael is the only one of the family who can see and communicate with George so the scenes involving George, Michael and one or more of the sisters are hilarious as poor Mike tries to talk to George! It turns out that George has only returned to do a bit of match-making for Michael. Find out whether he is successful by coming to see this funny and highly unusual play. Long standing member Nikki Grannon takes her seat in the director’s chair for the first time—we wish you every success, Nikki! The production also sees debut acting performances – by new member Kay Humphries and Youth Section member Amy Fletcher.
