Extra Information

  • Notes: ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ was written in 1598 and was a great hit from the begining. It was performed at the opening night of the Shakespeare Memorial theatre in 1879 and has been revived more than forty times at Stratford alone. We hope it proves as popular in Petersfield! While ‘Much Ado’ has been set in more periods than almost any other of Shakespeare’s plays, we plan to follow the practice of many recent productions and not be too specific about an actual date. It will be “sometime in the first half of the twentieth century” but with glaring anachronisms to emphasise the timeless quality of Shakepeare’s work. Some of the male parts will be played by women.
