Much Ado About Nothing

It is 1982. The Falklands war is over, and the victorious soldiers return home, their nation’s honour restored. Don Pedro and his followers, Benedick and Claudio, visit Duke Leonato. Claudio instantly falls head over heels in love with Hero, the Duke’s daughter, and their marriage is agreed. Unfortunately, Don John, Don Pedro’s bastard brother, contrives a malicious plot to drive the young couple apart. Meanwhile, Hero’s cousin, Beatrice, and Benedick are not so taken with each other, both professing contempt for conventional love. Is there more in their hearts than they are willing to admit? A scheme is devised to bring them together…
The team behind the Summer Reading Abbey Ruins Festival Shakespeare returns to present their annual production for 2009, relocated to their own indoor theatre due to the restoration works in the Ruins.
