Oedipus the King
By Sophocles
Directed by Dean Hempstead & Kat Tokley
13th March – 17th March 2012
“The grief we cause ourselves cuts deepest of all”
The city of Thebes is dying from a disease sent by the Gods. King Oedipus, with his Queen Jocasta at his side is desperate to find the former Kings murderer to lift the curse. However, the path he takes is very rocky and as more truth is revealed, the more he sees that his life was destined for a terrible fate… This ancient Greek tragedy is one of just 7 surviving plays written by Sophocles more than 2500 yeas ago. It still retains as much emotion, horror and unrelenting power for its audience today as it did then.
We are bringing this production bang up to date with snappy suits, fantastic tracks and the odd gun fight! Visit our website http://chelmsfordtheatreworkshop.wordpress.com/ for further details.
