On the Razzle

Fifty Glorious Years!
Two thousand and nine sees the Golden Jubilee of Petersfield’s Lion and Unicorn Players. This follows hard on the heels of the Group’s one-hundredth production, the American Classic “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder, a production that has just won a National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) Accolade of Excellence Award for the year 2008-2009.
For the Golden Jubilee production, the Players have chosen “On the Razzle”, a brilliant farce by Tom Stoppard. How to describe “On the Razzle”? Two hours of slapstick shenanigans, mistaken identities, misdirected orders, malapropisms, double entendres, and romance will do for a start. There is a garrulous grocer, a Machiavellian manservant, a pantomime horse, a randy coachman, a French maid, and costumes from the Vienna of the 1900s. The precise and intricate machinery of plot and sub-plot whirrs at full speed deploying all the elements of a classic farce and, above all, it is one long laugh.
This production will be performed in the Festival Hall in Petersfield on the 12th, 13th, and 14th November 2009. Evening performances commence at 19.30 and there will be a matinee performance on Saturday 14th November commencing at 14.30. Tickets: £9 (concessions £8, matinee all £6).
Tickets are available from 01730 821491 or lion [dot] unicorn [at] waitrose [dot] com until 12th October when they will be available from our box office at One Tree Books, Lavant Street, Petersfield.
