Once A Catholic
- Mar 16th 2010 7:30 pm to Mar 20th 2010 7:30 pm
Little Theatre Company will stage the riotous comedy play “Once A Catholic” by Mary O’Malley from Tuesday March 16 to Saturday March 20, 2010.
Set in a London convent school in the 1950s, it follows the exploits of class 5a during their O Levels.
The girls – including innocent Mary Mooney, saucy Mary McGinty and pert Mary Gallagher – encounter nuns, boys and Father Mullarkey and cope with confused sermons, unforgiving sex education lessons and the temptations of Elvis Presley. Bombarded by saints, sin and suffering, the girls battle their way through adolescence with a stubborn resolve not to give in. But can they make it through the year with their regulation underwear and their sanity intact?
Once a Catholic casts a caustic eye on the young girls’ growing awareness of the world and their own sexuality. In an environment where only Hell and Damnation await sinful thoughts, it’s teen spirit versus the nuns.
The shows starts at 7.30pm each night of the run at the Brewhouse Arts Centre, run by East Staffordshire Borough Council, Union Street, Burton-on-Trent.
Tickets are £8, with £7 concessions available Tuesday to Thursday only. Book through the Brewhouse box office on 01283-508100 or online securely through LTC’s own website http://www.little-theatre.co.uk. There is no booking fee for online bookings.
