• Synopsis
  Catherine (LAURA THOMPSON) has spent the last few years taking care of her father, Robert (TERRY BUDIN-JONES), a mathematical genius of international renown. In his later years, Robert became mentally unstable and, on the eve of his funeral, Catherine begins to suspect that she has inherited some of her father’s instability along with some of his genius. Robert leaves behind 103 notebooks in his study to which an ex-student, Hal (RICHARD ABSALOM), has been granted access. With Catherine’s help, Hal makes a startling discovery that could change the face of mathematics forever. But is it possible that it is not the work of Robert, but is instead that of his daughter? Against this background of confusion and grief, Catherine’s sister, Claire (ALLIE NEAL), arrives and, after the funeral, attempts to persuade Catherine to move to New York, away from all she knows.

Proof is a poignant, and often light-hearted drama about families, mental illness and romance in modern-day Chicago and we (as a cast and production team) are dedicating it to anyone who has been a carer for someone with a mental illness. In the year it opened on Broadway, the play won both the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play.
