• Play Synopsis: Rattigan, one of the leading dramatists of the 20th-century, explores fallibility and deception with passion and balance. In a Bournemouth Hotel, as the guests gather for dinner, the trio of permanent boarders act out their petty table routines and rituals. Here new arrivals are viewed with suspicion or open curiosity. Beneath this veneer of respectability is a group of lonely people with secrets, who plot and manoeuvre to retain their fragile positions. Yet when faced with inevitable exposure, it takes the mediation and tact of the manageress, Miss Cooper, to rescue the situation at her personal cost. Of course, there are as always, great lines for actors to relish and audiences to enjoy.
