Extra Information
- Notes: CAODS present Stephen Sondheim’s master work Sweeney Todd, The Demon barber of Fleet Street. This ‘musical thriller’ tells the dark story of Sweeney Todd (aka Benjamin Barker) who, wronged by Victorian justice and corruption, has escaped from prison in Australia and returned to London to reclaim his life. He arrives to find his wife dead and his daughter a ward of the corrupt and evil Judge Turpin who originally shipped Todd off to the colonies on a trumped up charge. With the help of Fleet Street pie shop owner Mrs Lovett, who has always harboured amorous feelings for him, he sets about extracting his revenge which descends into a trail of death, murder and meat pies. The humour in the show is ever present, if always dark, and the drama of the piece makes it a must-see. This is a rare opportunity to see a full theatrical production and is directed by Ray Jeffrey with musical direction by Andrew Denyer.
