- Notes: The Darling Buds of May is a great family yarn. It centres around the lives of the boistrous Larkin family and the arrival of a somewhat prim and proper tax inspector whom they nickname Charlie! It contains lots of humour, leaving you with a nice rosy glow on your cheeks. The play contains all the great ingredients that are evident in the novel by H.E Bates. The play had its first national tour in 1995 and opened at The Royal Theatre in Northampton.
