Extra Information
- Notes: Middle aged suburban couple Stanley and Hazel Inchbridge live with Hazel’s irritating brother Austen. Although childless they have two “surrogate” children in Warren, an oddball computer wizard, and Alice (who prefers to call herself “Rick”) a moody young woman in hiding from her mother and step-father. The four of them get together once a week at the Inchbridges’ home to play a fantasy role-playing game which Warren has devised, each adopting a certain character and identity. It’s all a bit of a whim, but it becomes a momentary distraction from the troubles of their everyday existence.Suddenly, Marcie Banks comes into their lives. She is a colleague of Rick’s, and comes to her for help when she is forced to leave her husband. Before long she too joins in with the weekly game-playing ritual. In one way or another, Marcie has a profound impact on everybody around her. There is something in her that brings out the best (and the worst) in each of them, and helps them to explore a new and different side to themselves. And as time goes on, they all begin to take on new “identities” of their own. Funnily enough, these new identities are not entirely dissimilar to their alter-egos in the Game….. Dark, disturbing, but worryingly comic.
