Bridlington Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society has been in existence since 1909.
The Council run Spa Theatre in Bridlington has been the main venue for large musical shows over the years while plays have been presented in several school and church halls.
On September 20, 2000, however, a new era began for BAODS with the first drama production in its very own theatre called "Spotlight". Thanks to the dedication and hard work of its members, plus the help and generosity of local organisations, a former printing works had been transformed into a compact and homely small theatre which now has air conditioning, a loop system for the hard of hearing, tiered seating and even a small bar for interval drinks !
While the Spa Theatre is still used as before, "Spotlight" is the place for drama productions as well as summer musical shows and, at present, two such shows are being rehearsed - "West End to West Street" and an "Old Tyme Music Hall" - both of which will run weekly through the coming summer. Rehearsals have also started for "Songs from the Shows" which goes on in September at the Spa.
New members are sure of a friendly welcome so why not come along to "Spotlight", 55a West Street, Bridlington, one Monday or Thursday evening at 7.30 pm.
