HAPS, a society established, in 1982, is a group of some 50 to 60 dedicated people (including a few from the original Wiggin Panto Group of 1963-1982) who perform pantomime in order to raise money for local charities. Their pantomimes are generally performed during half-term week in February each year. These days we give 12 performances - 6 matinees and 6 evenings.
'The object of the Society is to provide members with the opportunity to make public performances of a show (or shows) of their choice and in consequence, raise funds which may be disbursed to local charitable causes.'
The Society encourages families to join since we can always find something for willing helpers to do if they do not wish to go on the stage. Apart from 'Backstage' and 'Front of House' there are children to be supervised and helped, 'make-up' help is always appreciated, props have to be made and organised during the show, costumes attended to and made - we can always find something for everyone to be involved with!
We occasionally perform a mid-year show for charity and just for ourselves because we like to relive the fun that we've had in putting on our pantomimes.
In 2003 we celebrated 40 years of Amateur Pantomime in Hereford, having a grand Reunion of roughly 100 past and present members of the society.
We have recently set up a web site which is full of pictures from pantomimes going back as far as 1963 - here you will find details of past and current productions - please pay a visit to www.herefordpantomime.org
