Rutherglen Rep
Rutherglen Rep is a small, friendly, and active community drama group based in Cathkin High School Theatre, and has, in various guises, been providing entertainment for the people of Rutherglen and Cambuslang for more than 60 years.
In recent years the group has performed a pantomime in December, incorporating a tour round local venues as well as final performances at Cathkin High School Theatre. Other events on the calendar include an evening of One Act Plays which is again toured around the local area and sometimes a Full Length Play in the summer.
Rutherglen Rep is currently working on a production of "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller for performances in late summer 2004. This is a major venture for the Rep and we look forward to welcoming many people through the doors when the show opens in late summer. This is the first Full Length play that the group has performed for many years but this year we have decided to resurrect this production and look forward to bringing Arthur Miller's excellent work to the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area!
Rutherglen Repertory Theatre is currently running a One-Act Play Writing Competition. A regular item on the Rep's calendar is the One-Act Play Tour in early/late spring. For some years, the plays have mostly been written by Rep members. Now we've decided to encourage other aspiring writers to have a go at supplying us with material for the 2005 tour, and we're running a one-act play writing competition. The deadline for entries is 31st. October 2004, and the prize is £100 plus performances, so even if you've never written stage drama before, now's your chance to try!
We are always glad to see new members who want to try their hand at amateur drama and with a busy calendar coming up the more the merrier. Amateur Drama is not all about the acting and for those who don't fancy treading the boards in front of the curtain help and assistance with set design and building as well as backstage crew during performances is always required so whatever you want to do why not come along and have a go!
