The Stage Right Theatre Company was founded in 2001 to promote new writing and performing opportunities in Sefton, Merseyside. The company's Artistic Director, Chris Fittock, has worked for seven years as a professional playwright, with productions of his work staged at the Liverpool Everyman and Unity theatres. His play, Fine Wine and Pringles at the Café Belgrade, won the Whitbread in the Community Award for Best New Play in 1999, and his latest play, Constrained Things, was the winner of the Merseyside Left Theatre Trust New Play Award, 2004.
Co-founder, Antony Stuart-Hicks, is an accomplished actor, singer and director, who has been the Artistic Director of Liverpool Musical Society for several years. He will shortly be appearing in Summer Holiday in Worthing for Hammond Productions. Together, they bring a wealth of experience of community theatre, seeking to work with young people to make theatre inclusive and pro-active. Past projects have financially benefited the local community, and provided theatrical opportunities which are otherwise unavailable in the borough of Sefton.
The company produces an annual show, Off Broadway, which brings together young performers from across Merseyside, for an evening of singing, dancing and international drama. In 2003, Stage Right gave the UK premiere of Dear God Please by the New York writer Jay Hanagan. At this year's show, the drama will include The Prodigal Cow, a short play by Los Angeles playwright and screenwriter Mark Harvey Levine. Stage Right is the only company in Sefton to bring new international drama to the borough. As well as offering performing opportunities, we also offer directorial and technical positions too.
These activities are made possible only by the kind support of the local community and businesses. Advertising and sponsorship are vital to the future of Stage Right, and we are always on the lookout for sponsors and advertisers. They can contact us by email for further details.
This year's Off Broadway show takes place at St. Mary's Church Hall, Waterloo, Liverpool, from 26-28 August, and features performers from as far a field as Manchester and Morecambe. More details are available on our website.
