BARTON PLAYERS
Formed in 1984 and celebrating their 20th Anniversary, Barton Players are going from strength to strength in Amateur dramatics. Traditionally they have performed small comedies and Farce, but in recent years have become more diverse and ambitious, branching out into Pantomime, through to their first fully fledged musical, with last years fantastically successful production of Fiddler on the Roof. The diversity of the last few years have earned them a reputation all over Bedfordshire as a group about whom nothing is predictable, and this reputation is one of which they are justly proud. This year, to mark their anniversary, they return to farce by performing Don’t Dress for Dinner by Marc Camoletti and Robin Hawden.
2005 looks to be an even busier year for the Players with the Pantomime “Dick Whittington”, in February, a Workshop for the youngsters in Barton planned for July, a possible festival entry and another as yet undecided production in October.
Over the last 20 years the membership of the group has fluctuated, but now boasts an extremely healthy and enthusiastic membership. We are always on the look out for new members, and value enthusiasm over talent every time. Nevertheless, we are proud of the talents that we have within our group in all areas.
We rehearse our shows in various local venues in the village, and our productions take place at Barton village hall.
We have only recently branched out into musicals, but have enjoyed the challenges so much that we intend to continue with more in the future.
We are also proud of our website which is constantly being updated with news for members and non-members alike. There is a past performance archive with programmes and photos from nearly all of the 43 productions that we have performed.
