About the Barn Theatre Club
The Club exists for all those interested in the theatre, both on and off stage, though many members simply enjoy the social aspects. In addition to offering roles in plays, or back stage support crew, the Club has other activities including special club nights and social events, plus use of the clubroom bar most evenings. A monthly newsletter keeps members informed of forthcoming events. We stage 10 “house” productions per year, as well as hosting the Welwyn Youth Drama Festival in May. The theatre is also available for bookings from outside production companies and for private functions in our bar area. We have even hired out our facilities for use as TV & film locations!
Newcomers to the Barn are usually impressed by two things: the quality of the productions, and the astonishing transformation of a 17th century farm building into a modern well equipped theatre. The ancient huge timbers of this listed building house a recently refurbished raked auditorium, affording excellent vision from all seats, plus a cosy club room bar. The theatre seats 139 including disabled access.
Over the years The Barn Theatre Club has achieved a high reputation, regularly winning Drama Festival Awards for the quality of its productions, and has attracted some of the best talents. It also has an enviable record of attracting high volume audiences.
In addition to providing a varied programme of plays, we regularly offer special presentations by well known names who have appeared in the West End, the Royal National, and the RSC.
As one first time patron said, “I had no idea that this quality of theatre was on my doorstep” And, as one reviewer put it “with productions of this standard, why travel to the West End?”
