Based in Largs on the West Coast of Scotland (50 miles West of Glasgow), Largs Players are a vibrant community-based theatre group performing regularly in a number of venues in the surrounding area. Our main theatre and spiritual home is the 500-seater Barrfields Theatre in the Vikingar! Centre on the seafront. Opened in 1930 the Barrfields Theatre has a long and colourful history with its heyday in the 1930’s – 1960’s when summer variety shows packed in locals and holidaymakers alike. Now part of the larger Vikingar! Complex the theatre still regularly holds shows from touring companies along with Largs Players productions.

Largs Players first performed in February 1932 with three one-act plays, “Rory Aforesaid”, “The Bathroom Door” and “The Guinea’s Stamp”. Despite its size (just over 50 members) Largs Players tackles a huge variety of play styles – over the years we have put on classics such as “Blithe Spirit”, “Pygmalion”, “The Importance of Being Earnest” and “Plaza Suite”, big musical productions such as “42nd Street” and “Anything Goes”, premier amateur productions such as “The Sash”, “The Steamie” and “A Wee Touch of Class”, summer variety shows, original plays penned by their own members, murder mystery evenings and 35 pantomimes. They also regularly enter plays into the SCDA festival gaining high marks in many categories.

This variety means that everyone gets involved and The Players have active members that have been involved with the group since 1956! Last year saw their 75th Anniversary celebrations culminating in a Gala Dinner with special guest, star of stage and screen, Johnny Beattie.

In their 76th year of performing Largs Players are undertaking “La Cage Aux Folles”. Possibly one of our most spectacular and demanding shows to date, with a chorus of dancing “girls” and stunning West End production costumes, this promises to be a night out no one will forget – especially the cast!

Largs Players are always on the look out for enthusiastic new members whether you want to tread the boards, direct, light the stage or simply help out in a front of house capacity. The group is warm and welcoming and work hard and play hard.
