The Littleport Players in Cambridgeshire have currently received an award of £6,300 from the Local Area Network Fund to go towards professional workshops. So far, they have had workshops in choreography, drama, make-up and set design. These have coincided with their rehearsals of Thoroughly Modern Millie that takes place in the next couple of weeks and have proved very successful. Money from the fund is also going towards to special trip to see Les Miserables in the West End. This trip includes a drama workshop with the actors (where they get to act out a scene from Les Mis on the stage), a backstage tour plus a matinee performance. This is an important trip for the children as some have not been privileged to see a West End show.

The workshops have proved extremely useful as new professional people have been entering the group and giving the members excellent tips on acting and dancing as well as the technical side of things. They have got to see how theatre works as a whole and not just about being on stage. The workshops are continuing over the next few months – one being a special Shakespeare Day to include stage fighting run by a professional director who specializes in Shakespeare. This workshop will be very interesting to us all because we have never touched Shakespeare before so we cannot wait to learn the new skills that are provided to us.

The Littleport Players performs one pantomime and one musical a year and were the first group in East Anglia to perform the musical Summer Holiday last year. Rehearsals are held every Monday and Wednesday and we accept anyone aged between 8 and 80.
