Welcome
to Hull Playgoers' Society! We are the longest-established amateur theatrical
society in Hull, having celebrated our Centenary in 2001, and one of the most
highly-respected amateur groups in the area.
As well as our Spring and Autumn productions at the Hull Truck Theatre in Spring Street, we also have fortnightly readings of plays both classic and modern, ranging from farce and comedy, to the most challenging dramas. In addition, a group of our members, 'Chapter and Verse', gives readings and recitations 'in the community'.
Our Society is run by an elected Committee which chooses the plays for productions and readings before the beginning of the season, starting in September. We encourage our membership to be involved in this process, by suggesting plays they would like to see produced or read.
The strength of the Society is its broad range of membership, both in terms of age, from 14 to 99, and in terms of interests and skills. Our members come from all walks of life and bring their many abilities to the Society.
We meet at a local school, where we have a range of rooms for rehearsals, set-building facilities, a costume store, library, and an archive of material from the past 101 years!
Our regular social events include a President's Evening to launch the season, our annual dinner, a popular annual quiz and supper and a Christmas evening.
Please look through our pages to get a flavour of the Hull Playgoers' Society. We are always happy to hear from anybody who would like to come along to a reading, or get involved in other ways. Check out Find Out More for contact details.
