Review – I Want That Hair
A two act play set in a hairdressers salon in North Yorkshire, run by Bex who has taken over the salon from her mother, and is aided and abetted by her friend Heidi.
There are just the two female roles in this play, so would need to be cast by two strong actresses who can learn lines well.
The theme of the play is about approaching old age, as Bex has reached her 40th Birthday, and her husband is planning a surprise party for her, however it is not a surprise as Bex is fully aware of the party, and is dreading it.
To add to her troubles a rival salon has set up directly opposite from hers and is much more trendy and popular with the local ladies.
We get a glimpse of what Bex’s life has been like, and the little that she has done with it.
This is a well written play by Jane Thornton, who gave us Shakers, and delivers on all levels, with some very funny moments, but some also very deep thoughtful elements, that will leave those members of the audience of a certain age taking stock of their own achievements!
